Teguise is the original flagship market town of Lanzarote. Unlike our modern coastal neighbours (Costa Teguise). Teguise Village, locally known as ‘La Villa’, is steeped in history.

The local people of Lanzarote lay claim to Teguise being the oldest Spanish settlement in the whole of the Canaries. The history of the area dates back to 1402. Furthermore, this was the original capital of the island. The town has a unique charm with many of its buildings dating back to the 17th century. This creates the perfect backdrop for a Sunday market, full to the brim with rustic chic style!

The buzz begins each Sunday from 09:00 to 14:00 – Be ready to haggle!

Market Bartering..

Every Sunday our sleepy village wakes up bright and early. Teguise is ready to welcome locals and tourists alike from all over Lanzarote. As with any good market bargain hunt, the art of bartering is required. There are literally hundreds of stalls to browse through. The cobbled streets are filled with people selling craft items: Artisan jewellery. Shoes. Ceramics. Handbags. Paintings. Toys. Clothing & of course, souvenirs.

Market Entertainment..

Shopping until you’re dropping is not the only reason to visit Teguise on Sundays. Live music in the streets, museums and a tremendously cool atmosphere are equally unmissable. The church square comes to life with two groups of musicians who entertain everyone throughout the morning, with music and folklore dancing. In addition to all this, each of the local bars and restaurants open their doors to feed and entertain the Sunday visitors too.

Cantina Teguise Sundays..

At Cantina Teguise we pride ourselves on offering a unique twist to any Sunday market visit. The reason is a secret, but not the kind of secret you might expect!

Live Music & Artisan Lanzarote Beer by NAO

We’re open with our rustic international cuisine 7 days of every week, but on a Sunday we add a new level to cantina. The Secret Garden comes to life at the back of our building. Within those open air walls we offer live music courtesy of the brilliant EMMIEL and a touch of magic with a local illusionist. Why not? Enjoy our Daytime Food Menu. Local wine. Artisan Beer. Homemade Lemonade and full drinks list. Available all day.

Tip..

Cantina Teguise is open for food and drinks during the evening too. (Main menu begins from 5pm). We do get very busy though, so it’s a good idea to book your table with us in advance, right here 🙂

Hope to see you Soon.
