What is an Ironman Triathlon..

Ironman is one of a series of long-distance triathlon races organised by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC), consisting of a 2.4-mile (3.86 km) swim, a 112-mile (180.25 km) bicycle ride and a marathon 26.22-mile (42.20 km) run, raced in that order and without a break. It is widely considered one of the most difficult one-day sporting events in the world.

Most Ironman events have a limited time of 17 hours to complete the race. Held in Kailua-Kona, the world championship has been held annually in Hawaii since 1978 (with an additional race in 1982). Originally taking place in Oahu, the race moved to Kailua-Kona in 1981, where it continues today. The Ironman World Championship has become known for its grueling length, and harsh race conditions.

Ironman Lanzarote

Lanzarote is often referred to as the short hall Hawaii for Uk and European visitors. The conditions are equally difficult, with all of the elements working against participants.

Ironman Lanzarote 2015 – Local friend Jason Wilkes

The first Lanzarote event was held in 1992 by the Club La Santa in the municipality of Tinajo. In this edition 148 athletes participated, of which 116 finished the race. Today the competition welcomes around 2000- 2500 participants each year. In 1993 the competition was moved to Puerto del Carmen, where it will be held as usual on Saturday May 25th.

We were delighted to see the new route for Ironman Lanzarote 2019. The route has previously passed by our doors on the outward journey, (Around half way through the gruelling bike section). We love welcoming supporters and we’re always ready to join the crowds and cheer each participant. This year we get to cheer twice! The bike route heads back past us on the way down from the north of Lanzarote.
